We are aware of the pressure that MK council – and all councils have been under due to central government austerity policies to continue to provide social care services. The Green Party understands the importance of community and social capital in the health of individuals and families. Although we appreciate that the Council is under pressure to focus on statutory services, it is well understood that the provision of social infrastructure reduces the proportion of the population who end up needing statutory services.

Local elections for Milton Keynes council will be held on Thurs 02/05/2019 across the city. The Green Party is presenting candidates in all of the 19 wards so that voters have a genuine choice. Ten of our candidates live in the wards where they are standing for election and all the candidates are MK residents.

The launch followed the government’s announcement last week that it had chosen corridor B, via Winslow, for the Expressway. The creeping privatisation of our NHS continues with little scrutiny. Private companies like Virgin Care are taking on more NHS contracts even though they have an impressive record of failure to deliver. The Green Party is clear that our National Health Service is best delivered as a public service with publicly employed staff.
