Milton Keynes Green Party has selected its candidates for the Milton Keynes City Council By-elections in the Bradwell and Broughton wards on 14th November 2024.

It has selected Gary Lloyd as its candidate for Broughton ward and Alan Francis for Bradwell ward.

Gary Lloyd

Gary Lloyd, candidate for Broughton ward, lives in Oakridge Park and works as a postie. He is also the CWU Union Rep for his delivery office in Newport Pagnell.

Gary has been an environmental activist and campaigner for several decades. He has lived in Milton Keynes for five years, having previously lived nearby in Bedfordshire. He served as a Parish Councillor in Harrold in Bedfordshire for four years, learning how the bottom tier of local Government works, and helping his local community.

Gary, 59, and his wife, a Deputy Head at a primary school, have two grown-up sons and two granddaughters. Since their children left home they have both volunteered for refugee charities and have hosted refugees in their home.

Alan Francis

Alan Francis, candidate for Bradwell ward, has lived in New Bradwell and worked in Milton Keynes for over 40 years. He was a computer graphics researcher at the Open University and has been a transport consultant. He was Green Party candidate for Milton Keynes North, which includes Bradwell ward, in this year’s general election.

He is a member, and former chair, of New Bradwell Parish Council. He has campaigned for the East West Rail Link. He is chair of Milton Keynes Bus Users Group that campaigns for better bus services in Milton Keynes. He has campaigned against large-scale housing developments on greenfield sites around Milton Keynes.

Note: Alan Francis announced at the general election count that he would not be standing in future general elections. Contrary to some reports in the media he did not rule out standing in future council elections.
